on August 18, 2023 at 9:14 amUsing vinegar and baking soda is old school for sure. We use them because when used together, at the right time – work very well on most grime and stains. Spraying on a commercial stain remover is overkill.
It buys you time! Over the counter spray stain removers have about a 20 minute window and you need to get it in the wash. Otherwise the loosened soil particles settle back in – in a ring around where you sprayed. In our production of laundering we don’t want to be on that kind of do or die schedule. It might be hours before the item gets in the washer – with vinegar and baking soda, no worries.
It washes away completely – no petro-chemicals left behind. No optical whiteners, no scent.
Finally, the nice little acid / base (pH) action removes a lot of dirt (notice the color of baking soda as you rub it in!) that is then washed away in the “prerinse” of the wash. Even before the soap is in the cycle – so you get a superior clean.
Plus, drumroll! It is way more cost effective.
